Wonderful realistic story no sugar coating and love the background information on an actress I've watch most of my life.
A must read for any Eileen Heckart fan, Luke Yankee weaves a masterful and poignant novel about his mother and famous character actress. Luke is able to bring to life his mother’s dedication not only to her craft, but to her husband and children. After reading this book, I felt a more personal connection to Ms. Heckart as well as Luke. You will laugh and cry with the turn of each page. Hats off to Luke for the live and dedication to his mom!!!’
Delectable. Eileen Heckart was a marvelous actress who should be better known. I became an instant fan upon seeing The Bad Seed. Her portrayal of the mother of a murdered child is emotionally wrenching. This memoir by her son is not brilliantly written, but who cares? It's a privilege to get to know this woman better.
I absolutely love and adore Eileen Heckart and had no hesitation buying this book....well almost !

A beloved Aunt of mine was a big fan who introduced me to Ms. Heckart on the "Late Show"....summer vacation and "THE BAD SEED"......Kid Heaven! OMG...My wild Aunt M & Ms E are forever in my heart.....
The hook is Eileen Heckart, the tough-talking, Oscar-winning actress who shared Hollywood screens and Broadway stages with luminaries from Marilyn Monroe to Mary Tyler Moore. The bonus is the author Heckart's youngest son, Luke Yankee, who reveals as much about himself as he does about his famous Mom in this entertaining memoir that is moving, mesmerizing and funny.
Of course, I'm as titillated as the next guy by Yankee's delicious insider showbiz stories. Eileen Heckart, best remembered by many for guest spots on The Mary Tyler Moore Show as Mary's brash Aunt Flo, knew the greats, and acted with many of them Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward, Marlene Dietrich, Ethel Merman, Bette Davis, Eva La Gallienne and many, many more. And the author offers up great stories about them all.
But as much fun as that is, the book truly comes alive when Yankee writes about his relationship with his larger-than-life mother, a relationship that was as much touch acting coach/acting novice and diva/adoring fan as it was mother/son.
A beautiful book, beautifully written and deserving of every one of its five stars.
Had the opportunity to work with Eileen and my favorite part after rehearsals was listening to all her showbiz stories. This book took me right back to those times. Recommend highly to anyone who wants to read about the inside stories of classic Hollywood and Broadway and the stars who entertained us. Author Luke Yankee spins these tales in a fresh and enjoyable style.
Reading this book was like bringing Eileen Heckart and so many other loved celebrities that she worked with back from the dead. Luke Yankee spoke so candidly and lovingly of his mother and all his childhood memories of growing up with her. He goes into depth with such detail and accuracy that I could envision all these memorable stories. She was an amazing lady and one that I would have loved meeting. I was always intrigued with her work but knew very little of her personal life and he fills in all the gaps and questions that I once had. Now because of his book, I feel like I knew her much better. Thank you for writing this book about your mom and giving the world an insight of the marvelous Mrs. Eileen Heckart Yankee.
